How to Play: Move
Index -> Playing the Game -> Actions -> Move
When you give your ship a move action, an arc appears in the ocean around it. Use your mouse to control the movement arrow within the arc. When you click, your ship will move to the point you selected.
If the ship has a base move which has two or more legs, another arc will appear and you'll have to click again.
A ship can't move through an island or another ship. If a ship has a combination move, such as L + S, you may choose to move her either L or S first, though she may change direction only between each leg. If a ship touches another ship or an island during her movement, she must stop, even if she could move farther that turn.
When the movement arrow turns into an anchor, your ship will dock with the island it hovers over. When the movement arrow turns into a dagger, your ship will ram the ship it points at.
Derelict
A ship is derelict and can't move if she has no masts. A derelict can't be given move or shoot actions. A derelict can still carry treasure and crew. If a derelict ship is hit, she sinks.
The following game functions may be performed using a move action or as the result of a move action.
Towing
After a ship is given a move action, if any part of her touches the bow of a derelict, she can tow that derelict. Each time your towing ship moves, youll receive an option to break the tow. If you pass on that option, the derelict will move astern of your towing ship and move with it.
A ship can tow only one ship at a time. The towed ship and any crew and treasure aboard become part of the towing players fleet.
The base move of a towing ship becomes S. When the towing ship docks, the towed ship will also dock at the same island. A towed ship can be repaired and sent back into battle.
Come About
When your ship is docked and you give it a move action, you'll receive an option to use a Come About action. Using this kind of special action, a ship can come about (turn in place) so that her bow ends where her stern started (a maximum turn of 180 degrees).
Dock
A ship docks with an island when she touches that island. You can't dock at an opponent's home island. As a free action, a ship docked at an island may drop off and board crew, or transfer crew to and from another ship docked at the same island.
Unloading treasure
When you dock at your home island, you automatically unload all treasure worth gold points; this is a free action.
Ram
After a ship resolves a move action, if any part of her bow touches any part of an enemy ship, you'll receive the option to ram that ship as a free action.
A d6 will be rolled; if the result is higher than the number of masts remaining on the enemy ship, the enemy ship's player must choose and eliminate (remove from the game) one mast from that ship. Ships can't ram each other while they are pinned.
Pin
A ship is pinned when her bow is in contact with any part of an enemy ship. The pinned ship can't move until the other ship moves away or is derelict.
Board
After a ship rams another ship, players receive the option to initiate one (and only one) boarding party as a free action; the player whose turn it is decides first. In a boarding action, a d6 will be rolled for each player, and the result is added to the number of masts remaining on his or her ship involved in the ram. The player with the highest total may eliminate one crew aboard, or steal one treasure from, the other ship.
