How to Play: Shoot
Index -> Playing the Game -> Actions -> Shoot
When a cannon shoots, draw an invisible "line of fire" from the associated mast's center point to any part of the target. If this line crosses your own ship's masts or sails, any island, or other ships (other than the target the line is being drawn to), the shot can't be made. You can't shoot at ships docked at their home islands, and you can't shoot at a member of your own fleet.
When you give your ship a shoot action, you must select one of her cannon to shoot. Either click on one of the masts highlighted in green or click on a die on your deckplate highlighted in green to shoot a cannon.
If that cannon has more than one target in range, you'll see ships glowing in green on the playmat. Select one of the highlighted targets to shoot that cannon at it.
Once that cannon shoots, you may have one or more cannon to shoot as part of the same shoot action. You may also choose to stop shooting with the STOP button in your phase dialog.
The color of the cannon's die is its range (red is Long and white is Short) and the number on the die is the cannon's rank. A die will be rolled for your cannon, and the result must be higher than the cannon's rank to hit. A die roll result of 1 automatically misses.
Removing Masts: If your cannon hits the target, your opponent will have to select one of its masts to be removed (along with that mast's associated cannon). Just like selecting a cannon to fire, your opponent can either click on a red highlighted mast or click on a green highlighted die. A ship that has no masts remaining is Derelict, and if that ship receives one more hit she will be sunk.
Sinking a ship with treasure aboard. When a ship sinks with treasure aboard, the gold value of that treasure is divided equally between the ship's controller and the player who sank the ship. Such treasure is placed on the player's home island. If the total can't be divided equally, the player who sank the ship gets the greater amount. Unique treasure aboard a ship that sinks is removed from the game.
Sinking a ship with crew aboard. Crew aboard a sunken ship are removed from the game.
Scuttling
Sometimes you may want to scuttle your own ship rather than have her sunk by your opponent. Your derelict ship will receive a scuttle action option. When you select it, a d6 will be rolled. On a result of 5 or 6, that derelict ship sinks at the beginning of your next turn. If an opponent begins to tow that ship before the beginning of your next turn, the scuttle attempt fails. All crew and treasure on a scuttled ship are removed from the game when she sinks.
